Chief Executive Officer David Hathaway has over 30 years of experience in real estate development, financing and management. This includes both residential and commercial developments.

After graduating from Valdosta State University, with a BS in Economics in 1970, David worked for Liberty Savings Bank (now BB&T) where he was instrumental in taking their Savings and Loan entity public. As Senior Vice President, he was responsible for the management of permanent, construction and commercial lending. During his tenure at Liberty Savings (1974-1985), David served as President of a wholly owned subsidiary, Liberty Properties, Inc., a development corporation where he oversaw the development of residential units, lots, condominiums and commercial properties. While serving as president of the holding company, he also served as executive Vice President at Pine State Securities, a wholly owned mortgage company. In 1985, David started Hawk Hill Development, developing and building more than 500 single-family homes. It was this experience constructing single-family homes that led to multi-family development.

In 1988, he founded Hathaway. As an owner, developer and general contractor, he has built single-family residential subdivisions, multi-family residential apartment complexes, condos and commercial properties. Since its inception, Hathaway has developed more than 500 residential lots, over 300 homes and more than 12,500 apartment units, in addition to various commercial properties. Mr. Hathaway is a member of the Georgia Apartment Association and the Atlanta Apartment Association. He is also a Leadership Macon graduate (1978) and has served on the Board of Directors for the Macon Home Builders Association (1988). He is also a member of Sucession Golf Club in Beaufort, SC., and Capital City Country Club in Atlanta, GA.
Nick Hathaway

Nick Hathaway joined Hathaway Development Partners in 2007 after working in multi-family brokerage for multiple years. During that time, he was responsible for underwriting, market analysis and financial analysis, within a team that focused on institutional grade multi-family transactions at Marcus and Millichap. Nick then went on to close approximately $80M worth of multi-family assets as a standalone agent. Nick has also represented principals in land acquisitions of a broker. Nick Hathaway attended NYU and Kennesaw State University with a focus on Business Management and Economics.

While working at Hathaway Development as Director of Development Nick worked with the development team to lead all new development projects from initial concept planning through construction completion. Nick has been responsible for developing a conceptual plan for each new development, preparing and managing construction and working internally with HD and Hathaway Constructions Services with budgets and schedules, coordinating all of Hathaway Developments in-house resources, and managing external design/construction/municipal relationships acting as Hathaway Developments representative. Nick and the Development company are heavily involved in the initial due diligence, preconstruction planning and design phases, obtaining necessary approvals for zoning and permitting, and remains actively engaged in the oversight of construction performance and draw administration until final certificates of occupancy have been granted.

Nick and the entire Hathaway Development company have worked together to successfully develop multifamily projects ranging from Texas throughout the Carolinas.
Thomas Gunter

Thomas joined Hathaway Development in 2011 and is involved in all aspects of development and acquisitions of market rate multifamily apartment projects. During his tenure with Hathaway, Thomas has been involved in the closing of over $450 million in transactions. Prior to joining Hathaway, Thomas was a Senior Associate with Silverpeak Real Estate Partners where he spent 3 years in asset management of various real estate asset types for Lehman Brothers Real Estate Private Equity Fund investments. Prior to joining Silverpeak, Thomas was a Transaction Analyst with the mortgage banking firm of IRE Capital Advisors in Atlanta where he was involved in closing over $500 million in transactions. In addition, Thomas held several positions with Turner Broadcasting System in the area of corporate accounting and finance. Thomas’ experience in commercial real estate began in 2003 and he holds a B.B.A. in Finance from University of Georgia and an M.B.A. from Georgia State University.
John Spivey

John Spivey joined Hathaway Development in March of 2015 having previously served as Development Manager for Hathaway from 2005 to 2009. John was named COO of Atlanta Refrigeration in 2009 and continued in that role for 6 years. During his time at Hathaway Development John has been involved in over 3,000 units of ground up multi-family development. His responsibilities include project oversite from inception to completion of all Hathaway Development ground up projects and acquisitions. John attended The University of Georgia and has a B.B.A. of General Business from The Terry College of Business.
Marzena Demko

Marzena joined Hathaway Construction in 2004 as a Project Accountant. Since then she has gained experience in construction, development and real estate accounting. In recent years, she has advanced to become a member of development team and has been assisting development to in all aspects of capitalizing, developing and managing new projects, including development analysis, due diligence and various asset management responsibilities. Marzena holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Georgia State University.
